EU retail trade volume rose slightly
Growth in August was modest, with differences remaining between countries.

The news in brief
According to Eurostat's first estimate of 6 October, in August 2026 seasonally adjusted retail trade volume rose by 0.1% month on month in both the euro area and the EU. Year on year, the calendar-adjusted indicator showed increases of 0.8% and 1.2%, respectively.
How should we interpret it?
This is a volume indicator, so the result should not be interpreted directly as a change in nominal revenue.
