New markets, new clients: what does it take to expand across borders?
International expansion requires more than a translated company presentation: market fit and workable business terms are also essential.

A nearby market is not necessarily a familiar one
A neighbouring country may seem an attractive opportunity, but geographical proximity alone does not guarantee demand. Businesses in the target market may be accustomed to different suppliers, deadlines or communication styles. At the outset, it is therefore worth understanding when working with a new partner would benefit them.
International buyers also need a concrete advantage
As an illustrative example, the cheapest supplier is not necessarily ideal for a metalworking company. Batch size, documentation or the delivery time that can be offered may matter. An introduction should clearly communicate advantages that the company can actually deliver.
The market and the terms both matter
The European Commission's Access2Markets portal helps users understand the conditions for trading goods outside the EU, including information relating to the product and target market. Even within the EU, it is unwise to assume automatically that the same terms apply to every transaction. Specific delivery, tax and contractual questions must be clarified for the situation concerned.
Language is part of the relationship
An accurate company presentation is a good start. Questions, changes and further discussions may follow, however. In GLOBEFOX's view, the value of multilingual communication lies in keeping the business conversation clear in these situations too, so both parties proceed with the same expectations.
A focused start and feedback you can learn from
We believe it is worth starting with a clearly defined target market and a clear offering. Feedback can then more easily reveal what is understood, what is missing and where genuine interest exists. An international presence should be built on what can realistically be delivered, not simply the number of contacts made.
